From Aleph to Amen: TAO’s Foundational Siddur Program

Welcome to From Aleph to Amen, Temple Adath Or’s joyful and meaningful year-long journey into Jewish prayer, Hebrew, and spiritual identity for our youngest learners.

Designed for children ages 5 to 8 (grades K–3), this signature program builds a strong foundation in tefillah (prayer), Jewish tradition, and Hebrew literacy, all through creativity, community, and heart.

What We Learn

  • Daily, Shabbat, and Holiday Prayers: From Modeh Ani to Shema, from candle blessings to prayers of gratitude and peace, children begin to internalize the words and melodies of Jewish life.
  • Basic Hebrew and Siddur Navigation: Students learn to recognize Hebrew letters and key prayer vocabulary while exploring how the siddur is used.
  • Jewish Holidays & Traditions: Lessons are aligned with the rhythm of the Jewish calendar, using stories, songs, crafts, and movement.
  • Music, Joy, and Spirit: Every class incorporates singing or drumming, and musical play to make learning deeply felt and joyfully remembered.

A First Simcha: Personalized Siddur Ceremony

The year begins by blessing all the children under a canopy of Tallit, led by Rabbi Marc, to begin a Friday Family Shabbat service. The year culminates in a moving community celebration, where each child receives a personalized siddur, whose cover is created with the help of their family. Under a tallit chuppah, our children are once again blessed and honored in a ceremony that begins a beautiful Havdallah service, followed by a community dinner. This is often children’s first significant Jewish simcha, planting seeds for a lifetime of Jewish identity.
