At TAO, we offer adult programming all year.

Wisdom Class

We refer to our adult learning opportunities as Wisdom Class

We offer Wisdom Class every week on Wednesday, from 7 – 8 pm, to our members. Guests and friends of our members and speakers are asked to email the office – taoadmin@taocenter.net – for our Zoom and in-person information to attend.

Topics include the Ten Sefirot in Kabballah, the History of Sephardic Jews from Ancient Iberia to Today, Compassion and Resilience Trauma Training, Dreams and Their Meanings, The History of Israeli Healthcare, The Modern State of Israel, The Month of Elul and Teshuvah, Love and Judaism, The Jews of Rome, Angels and Demons, The Magnificent Work of Marc Chagall, and much more.

During the summer, we offer 8-week modular workshops and training sessions for a small fee. In 2024, the summer modules were Compassion and Resilience Training for Trauma.

In 2025, we will offer a choice to learn the fundamentals of the Hebrew language in order to read, write, and understand modern Hebrew, and an in-depth history of the establishment of the modern State of Israel with a special focus on the country’s cities, neighborhoods, topography, culture and geography.

Spiritual Bereavement Support Group

Grief does not follow a calendar, nor is it a linear journey. At Temple Adath Or, we honor this truth with a sacred space of compassion and connection. Every Tuesday—without exception, 52 weeks a year—we gather on Zoom for our Spiritual Bereavement Support Group, led entirely by credentialed clergy. This hour-long gathering is a place where hearts can speak freely, where sorrow is met with empathy, and where no one needs to walk the path of loss alone. Whether your grief is new or decades old, you are welcome. We do not offer quick fixes or timelines. We offer presence, prayer, comfort, and the gentle reminder that healing happens in community. Zoom information is provided to members and guests who request it: taoadmin@taocenter.net

Ignite your inner rhythm while awakening your drum voice through percussion classes at TAO.

This empowering drumming experience is designed for all skill levels. In our 5-session series, we will study the foundations of hand drumming. Each class will include rhythm rudiments to develop awareness and confidence in hearing and producing different rhythmic patterns.

We will explore a few of the rhythms that are played (TAO plays) during Shabbos services, including the Barchu and the Shema. Rhythms to be reviewed include the Haitian Yanvalou and the Jamaican Niyabinghi. We will also focus on the West African welcome song and rhythm, Fanga. By the end of our sessions, we will be prepared to play the welcome rhythm during our first live Shabbos on Aug 29 at “440”. Through guided excises and improvisational play, we will enjoy the power of connection and healing that the drums provide.

You are welcome to bring your favorite drum or percussion instrument, or if need be use one of TAO’s available drums for class practice.

About the Instructor: Zeva Soroker

Zeva started playing drums in Jamaica where she fell in love with Afro-Caribbean rhythms.  Upon her return to Miami, she performed with local reggae bands until she discovered the magic of the djembe.  As part of the cultural organization, Journey to Africa, Zeva helped bring the music of Africa into various South Florida communities.  Her employment as a drum instructor for Harambee, Inc. brought her to Guinea, W. Africa where she studied with L’Ensemble Symphonique Traditionelle de Guinee. Zeva polished her drumming skills with master percussionists, Cedric IM Brooks, Andre Crosby, Tra-Bi Lizie, Bli-Bi Gore, and Monette Marino. Zeva has been featured as a djembe accompanist and soloist for various dance companies including New World School of Arts, Delou Africa, and Recreate and Move.  Zeva realized a life-long dream in 2003 when she founded her company – Venus Rising: Women’s Drum & Dance Ensemble. For 15 years, Venus Rising wowed audiences with their powerful all-female drum and dance choreographies. Additionally, during her time as a Dade county public school teacher, Zeva experienced the power of using drum therapy to help people with Parkinsons and Alzheimer’s Disease. Playing percussion in TAO’s orchestra has become the cherry on her musical sundae and she is very excited to be able to share that joy with TAO.
